Goals and Funding Requirements
Long Term Goals
- To revive rural economies in south-central Idaho
- To increase the supply of local foods available regionally
- To develop a year-round market place and distribution system where member sellers (farmers, ranchers and vendors) and buyers can meet to increase the production and consumption of local foods
- To raise $100,000 to fund staff, start-up infrastructure and distribution costs to market and deliver food
Funding Opportunties
Multiple opportunities for future funding of this project exist through government grants (USDA), sales of food, membership donations and private donors and investors.
Grants: Idaho’s Bounty is one of 23 organizations in the nation to be awarded a Farmer’s Market Promotion Program Planning grant from the USDA. To read about this exciting news click http://www.ams.usda.gov/fmpp/ and click on October 1, 2007.
With this grant Idaho's Bounty will help improve and expand direct producer-to-consumer market opportunities in our local food shed of south-central Idaho.
We are meeting with Congressmen Mike Simpson and Clint Stennett to discuss future federal and state funding opportunities in Rural Economic Development.
Food Sales: The Idaho’s Bounty team is committed to continuing efforts to revive a viable, local food economy, including making Bountiful Food Deliveries every other week in the 2007 season. Until we are financially able to ramp up our infrastructure to process orders and distribute food, our sales volumes and income will be low.
Membership Donations: To offset a small part of our costs, we are working with the ERC and Citizen’s for Smart Growth to ask over 1,200 interested and committed neighbors concerned about the quality and availability of their food to make a donation to help create a thriving local food system.
