About Us
Onsen Farm is located in the beautiful Hagerman Valley, which is renowned for it's abundant spring water and geothermal resources. The 5.5 acre farm is owned and operated by James and Leslee Reed. They have a 3000 sq. ft. geothermal greenhouse that is now in it's second winter of production. In August 2008 Leslee & James partnered with Kelley Weston to lease two more greenhouses from a neighboring property so that we now have 10,000 sq. ft. of greenhouses in which to grow greens and other vegetables. Our goal is to acquire more greenhouses and to eventually have 60,000 sq. ft. in which to grow vegetables and fruit for Southern Idaho in the winter.
With artisian 130 degree geothermal water and 58 degree spring water, Onsen Farm's mission/vision is to create a permaculture based way of living using sustainable and ethical practices in raising healthy food for vibrant people.
We will be experimenting with various methods and a variety of foods. As this is our first year we are on a steep learning curve. Currently we are primarily growing a variety of greens but in a few months we will be selling tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, carrots and a myriad of other vegetables for your winter and spring cravings. Our greens are washed in our pv filtered spring water, we do though suggest that you wash them again before serving. You are welcome to call us and make an appointment to come down for a tour.
We practice organic methods, we are not certified organic.

Practices (our standards for raising or making our products)
After testing our soil and then adding organic compost, worm castings, and other organic material we are happy with the results. Good nutrient rich soil creates good nutrient rich vegetables. Even in the midst of winter we have bees, ladybugs and other beneficial insects flying around eating those little pests that we don't want eating our produce. It's a nice place to work (or just hang out) when it's 20 degrees outside because of our wonderful 130 degree water which wonderfully heats the greenhouses.
