About Us
Global Gardens Farm is on 22 beautiful acres in Star and is made up of a cooperative of 10 Somali Bantu Zigua refugees and the African Community Development Group. On the farm each family or group has one to two acres on which to grow produce for the farmers market and restaurants, as well as for themselves. They each receive training and mentorship in organic farming practices, selling at the farmers market, marketing, and business management. It is the dream of many of the farmers to one day have their own independant farm. By buying your produce from Global Gardens you are directly supporting the refugee farmer in their pursuit of this dream.

Practices (our standards for raising or making our products)
The farmers at Global Gardens use all natural organic practices with no addition of synthetic chemicals or fertilizers (we are not yet certified organic). The farmers use diversified and companion planting to manage pests, and non-mechanized hand labor to manage weeds. If you drive by the farm any evening of the week you will see whole families out in the fields weeding and harvesting, even the little ones.

Additional Information
The refugee farmers come from many African nations, including Somalia, Congo, and Burundi. They are in the United States because they were forced to flee their homes and countries or face death because they were of the "wrong" ethnicity or religion. Since 2005, over 2,600 refugees from 31 different countries have been resettled in the city of Boise and surrounding areas. Global Gardens serves of 100 of these families with our five community gardens, two community farms, and the 22 acre training farm in Star.
